Art and Design
At Bignold Primary School our Art Curriculum is based on the CUSP Curriculum. Mrs Davison is our Art Subject Leader.
The Bignold Art Curriculum is not only highly skills focused but also encourages children to explore the world of art through encounters with artists from across different cultures and eras as well as developing a deep understanding of artistic vocabulary and techniques. The artistic disciplines taught are blocked and include drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, 3D and collage. Vertical progression in each discipline allows pupils to revisit key areas throughout their primary journey at increasing degrees of challenge and complexity.
Unapologetically ambitious, our art curriculum focuses on excellence in this subject through a myriad of media and incredible artists.
The CUSP Art curriculum is organised into blocks with each block covering a particular set of artistic disciplines, including drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, 3D and collage. The curriculum is designed to allow students to revisit key subjects at increasing levels of difficulty throughout their Primary years.
Along with essential knowledge, it highlights important aspects of artistic growth in the "Working Artistically" section. Each module focuses on different skills to help guide students' overall artistic development and assess how well they are learning the material.
