Bignold Primary School

Curriculum

We teach a knowledge rich curriculum underpinned by educational research, promoting community cohesion through an understanding of diversity and inclusion.

We will support and challenge our learners to take risks in their learning to achieve their very best.  We do this by enabling them to build on prior knowledge and take responsibility to actively participate in school and community life, through developing transferable skills that can be tried and tested and applied in a range of practical contexts.

We follow a mastery approach, making a deliberate, conscious decision about the modelling of our curriculum: what we teach; when we teach; how we teach.  Through carefully chosen partnerships, with leading curriculum specialists including Unity Schools Partnership (CUSP) and Read Write Inc. we draw on relevant, current research and ensure our curriculum meets the needs of our specific school community.

CUSP is an ambitious curriculum and brings the most effective research, evidence-led practice and resources to support teacher subject knowledge, teacher pedagogy, learning tasks, assessment and feedback.

At the heart of our curriculum is a central belief that all pupils should have the opportunity to develop competence and confidence in reading. CUSP is an evidence-led curriculum that is built on the principles underpinned by the best cognitive and neuroscientific research available.

Strategically led by Alex Bedford and Lauren Meadows, CUSP content is developed and enriched by subject specialists and leaders in their field. CUSP long-term sequences and learning modules clearly articulate and define what pupils need to know as well as what pupils can do.
