Bignold Primary School

Physical Education

We use Get Set PE as a basis for our Bignold PE Curriculum. Miss Woods is our PE Subject Leader.

At Bignold Primary School, we are committed to providing a well-rounded, engaging, and high-quality Physical Education (PE) curriculum that supports the physical, mental, and social development of every student. Our PE curriculum is delivered through the Get Set PE program, which ensures a structured, progressive approach to learning, promoting physical literacy, and encouraging a lifelong love of physical activity.

Get Set PE ensures that each unit of work builds on prior knowledge and skills, starting from Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) through to Key Stage 2. Activities are designed to progress in complexity and challenge, enabling pupils to develop physical skills at their own pace.

Our PE curriculum covers a wide range of sports and activities, including but not limited to: gymnastics, dance, athletics, swimming, team sports (football, basketball, netball), and individual activities (athletics, fitness circuits, and more). This variety helps students find activities they enjoy and excel in.

PE and Sports Opportunities Beyond the Curriculum

Our school encourages students to extend their learning and interest in physical activity beyond the classroom. We offer extracurricular clubs, inter-school competitions, and sports festivals to provide students with opportunities to apply their skills in real-world contexts.

By embedding physical activity into every aspect of school life, we aim to help every child lead a healthy, active lifestyle both now and in the future.
