Bignold Primary School

Religious Education

We adapt the Norfolk RE Syllabus as a basis for our Bignold RE Curriculum. Miss Benson is our RE Subject Leader.

Religion is an integral part of everyday life for many children, especially in the culturally and religiously diverse community of Bignold Primary. At Bignold, children will explore and learn about different beliefs and practices in their communities and around the world. Our children will have the ability to hold balanced and well- informed conversations about religion and worldviews, make sense of the world around them and begin to understand the complex world in which they live. By following the Norfolk Agreed Syllabus, children are expected to develop their own beliefs, and respect the rights of other people to hold beliefs different to their own. The Norfolk Agreed Syllabus places specific emphasis on pupils valuing themselves and others, on the role of the family and the community, on the celebration of diversity in society through understanding similarities and differences, and on care for the environment.

Through assemblies and RE trips, we help students develop a deeper understanding of themselves and others. These experiences foster empathy, respect, and a sense of responsibility, encouraging students to become thoughtful, compassionate individuals in our diverse world.

Assemblies in RE

Our assemblies promote RE values by focusing on key religious themes, ethical discussions, and universal values like kindness and respect. These gatherings allow students to reflect on religious festivals and practices from different cultures, fostering a sense of community and shared understanding.

RE Trips

RE trips provide students with first-hand experiences of religious practices by visiting places of worship like churches, mosques and synagogues. These trips help students understand diverse beliefs, promote respect, and encourage open-mindedness by engaging directly with different faiths and traditions.
